By Will Kuhns, senior editor BEST GOAL: Perhaps Revolution forward Taylor Twellman took note of the plethora of bicycle-kick attempts at the World Cup, because he produced one of his own against Kansas City on Saturday. Twellman wisely imitated Belgium's Marc Wilmots and Brazil's Edmilson by making his acrobatics count on the scoreboard. After Brian Kamler headed Steve Ralston's cross down off the post, the ball bounced up into perfect striking range for Twellman and he buried it past Wizards' goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi from about six yards. The goal cut the Wizards' lead to 3-2, but New England was unable to further alter the score. REACHING THE SUMMIT, STARTING THE CLIMB: Wizards' midfielder Preki overtook Roy Lassiter atop the all-time MLS scoring chart with his assist on the gamewinner by Carey Talley. Preki now has 212 career points, one ahead of Lassiter, who was recently released by Kansas City and now is back with D.C. United. Meanwhile, another Wizard began his climb up the scoring column. Forward Igor Simutenkov, playing in his fifth MLS game, scored his first goal on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute and added his second in the 30th minute. DROWNING RAPIDS: Not even the return of skipper John Spencer could keep Colorado from sinking further into its slump — now at four straight losses after a 4-0 beat down from San Jose. After missing four games with a knee injury, Spencer took three shots, but could do nothing about his team's defense, which scored two of the Earthquakes goals for them. Only once before in MLS had a team scored two own goals in the same game. And it was the Rapids. Last season, in a 6-3 loss to Dallas on June 16, Colorado scored two in the wrong net. On Saturday, they duplicated the dubious feat when Rick Titus deflected a Dwayne DeRosario cross into his own net in the 63rd minute with his chest and goalkeeper David Kramer parried a DeRosario shot off the knee of Ritchie Kotschau in the 89th minute. ODDS AND ENDS: Dallas has a league-low three defeats this season, but has been shut out in all three, including its 3-0 loss to Los Angeles this weekend. … Mamadou Diallo set up Rodrigo Faria for the MetroStars' gamewinner in Chicago in the 81st minute.
