The Quakes roll past the Revs, whose playoff hopes took a dent as every Eastern Conference rival picked up points. … Colorado rallies to douse the Burn. … Los Angeles and Kansas City stumble.
BEST GOALS: Dema Kovalenko nailed a left-footed, 25-yard blast for the first goal in D.C. United's 2-1 victory over Los Angeles. Kovalenko veered in the from the right and fired just inside the far post to stun L.A. in the third minute.
Chris Henderson took a sweet feed from Mark Chung and smashed a low shot for the winning goal in Colorado's 2-1 comeback win over Dallas.
FACT: With the win, D.C. ended a two-game losing streak.
STAT: The Galaxy and United are tied at 10-10-0 in their all-time regular-season meetings.
BEST ASSIST: Steve Ralston floated a ball from midfield that Pat Noonan ran onto and touched past San Jose keeper Pat Onstad for a 1-0 lead that the Revs squandered to lose, 2-1, on Sunday.
FACT: New England, which lost MLS Cup 2002, 1-0, in overtime, trails the fourth-place Crew (28 points) by two points in the battle for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
STAT: The Revs (26 points) are 1-6-4 in their last 11 games.
BEST SAVES: D.J. Countess lunged to his left to deflect a John Spencer penalty kick and then pounced on the rebound in the Burn's 2-1 defeat.
Adin Brown leaped acrobatically to paw away a header by Landon Donovan, but the Revs' defense couldn't clear the rebound and Donovan eventually slammed the ball into the net for the winning goal.
FACT: For the second straight week, Dallas took a 1-0 lead but lost on the road. Brad Davis put away a penalty against the Rapids; last week, he scored on a free kick vs. the Galaxy.
STAT: Not surprisingly, the Burn owns the league's worst record (2-4-1) when scoring the first goal of the game.
CLASSIC CLINT: The Metros beat the Wizards, 2-1, in Kansas City on a pair of goals by Clint Mathis, who headed home an Amado Guevara corner kick and put away a long ball from John Woyniec. He tried to chip Tony Meola from about 45 yards out to notch the hat trick but his shot sailed over the crossbar.
FACT: Mathis hadn't scored in MLS play since July 2.
STAT: The Metros are 5-3-4 on the road, the second-best away mark behind San Jose (6-1-4).
