The Revs and Fire remain winless, San Jose gets off the schneid, Fabian Taylor upstages Freddy's first goal, and Tony Meola's 50th shutout helps Kansas City to victory.
BEST GOAL: Bikes are hard to beat and Dwayne DeRosario's overhead strike keyed a rally that powered San Jose past New England, 3-1.
With the Revs leading 1-0, keeper Adin Brown came out for a corner but couldn't punch it clear, and DeRosario twirled in the air to nail the floating ball back into the net.
Goals by Arturo Alvarez and Brian Ching gave the Quakes their first win of 2004.
STAT: San Jose goalkeeper Pat Onstad's six saves earned him selection as Man of the Match, the second straight week he's been honored as such.
BEST ASSIST: Jovan Kirovski ''hatted'' Rapids defender Gary Sullivan, lobbing the ball over his head before cutting it back for Carlos Ruiz to slot the goal that gave Los Angeles a 1-1 tie in Colorado.
Honorable mention goes to Ronnie O'Brien of the Burn, who raced down the right flank and curled a ball behind the Chicago defense for Eddie Johnson to score and Kansas City's Kerry Zavagnin, creator of a goal for Davy Arnaud with a delicate chip that beat the Columbus offside trap.
STAT: Ruiz has scored in all three Galaxy games this season.
BEST SAVE: Doug Warren of D.C. United pulled off a sensational save to deny Taylor, only to be beaten on the rebound in the Metros' 3-2 win.
Taylor drilled a header off Mark Lisi's cross and Warren dived to his left to parry it, but the rebound bounced free and Taylor slammed it high into the net.
The goal tied the match, 1-1. Taylor, signed as a discovery player last month after playing four seasons with Jamaican club Harbour View, scored again and John Wolyniec also tallied to counter Freddy Adu's tap-in with 15 minutes left.
STAT: United leads the all-time series of these rivals at 17-14-2.
BURNED: Dallas won its first game of the year and Chicago was blanked again.
Eddie Johnson scored one goal and set up the other as the Burn took the latest edition of the Brimstone Cup rivalry, 2-0.
STATS: The Fire have yet to score this season in three MLS games. By winning, Dallas took the lead in the all-time series 10-9-1. Head-to-head they are tied with 36 goals apiece.
BLANKED: Kansas City held off a determined 10-man Crew to post a 1-0 victory and Tony Meola's league record 50th shutout of his career.
Frankie Hejduk was sent off in the final minute of the first half for swatting Alex Zotinca in the face after Zotinca bumped him from behind.
Meola needed to make just two saves to boost his career record for shutouts. He also set the seasonal record of 15 in 2000 when the Wizards won their only league title.
STAT: Seven red cards have been issued in the 12 MLS matches played thus far.
CROWDED (OR NOT): Adu drew 31,419 to the Meadowlands for the Metros' home opener but in the other games attendances ranged from tepid to lousy.
New England (16,203) attracted a decent gathering for its opener, but the curtain-raisers in Colorado (13,417) and Chicago (12,828) were poor. Kansas City (9,682) suffered from the second-home-game-of-the-season syndrome after an excellent turn-out of 20,229 for its first home game two weeks ago.
STAT: Twelve games in 2004 have averaged 18,040 fans per game.
