Kansas City ties in midweek and on the weekend; the Revs snuff the Fire; the defending champion Galaxy is still winless; and the Metros take over the top spot in the East when Crew loses a 4-3 thriller in San Jose.

BEST GOALS: Gavin Glinton and Brad Davis thundered home shots in the Burn-Galaxy 1-1 tie.

Glinton volleyed a clearance into the top corner from beyond the penalty arc and Davis put away a square ball from Joselito Vaca.

As he did last year for the U.S. in the Gold Cup, Quakes defender Jeff Agoos lined up a free kick slightly to the right of the goal and powered it into the near-post top corner.

BEST CROSSES: Brian Mullan directed a ball from the right flank into the top corner for the Quakes' first goal in their 4-3 win.

''I said to him, 'Great cross, man!''' said defender Troy Dayak.

Defender Brian Dunseth — on the right wing, of all places — short-hopped a clearance that Jeff Cunningham banged into the net to tie the Crew and Quakes at 2-2.

BEST ASSISTS: Excellent through balls get the kudos this week.

On Wednesday, Preki turned and threaded a pass for Igor Simutenkov to slam into the roof of the net in the Wizards' 1-1 tie with New England.

Landon Donovan ran onto a Jeff Agoos header and slid a ball for Brian Ching to nail past Crew keeper Jon Busch for a 2-1 Quakes lead.

Revs midfielder Sharlie Joseph sliced open the Fire back line with a ball Steve Ralston drilled past keeper Zach Thornton to finish off the Revs' 3-0 win.

BEST SAVE: Adin Brown of the Revs contorted his 6-foot-5 frame to palm away a point-blank Rodrigo Faria attempt that bounced close to Brown's feet on its way toward the net.

STREAKS: Clint Mathis scored in his third straight game and his chip to Amado Guevara yielded the shot and rebound that Mike Magee knocked into the net as the Metros beat Colorado, 2-0.

Also scoring in their third straight games were Brian McBride and Taylor Twellman. The MLS record for consecutive games with a goal is seven, shared by Raul Diaz Arce and Wolde Harris.

Six games without a win is a record for the Galaxy (0-2-4) and is the team's worst start to the season since it won only one of its first eight games in 1997. That bad run contributed to the eventual departure of Coach Lothar Osiander.

STREAKS SNAPPED: The Quakes hadn't given up a goal in 344 minutes of play when McBride tucked away a penalty kick to tie the match, 1-1. … The Galaxy ended a scoreless streak of 302 minutes with Glinton's goal. Marco Etcheverry's penalty kick against Kansas City ended D.C. United's scoreless run at at 313 minutes.
