The Kansas City Wiz and the Tampa Bay Mutiny drew 1-1 in the inaugural MLS pre-season match March 14 in Boca Raton, Fla., where five clubs are holding spring training.

Vitalis “Digital” Takawira, Kansas City’s striker from Zimbabwe, opened the scoring with a shot into the upper right corner of the net in the 39th minute.

Mexican first division veteran Martin Vasquez equalized for Tampa Bay in the 61st minute on a 30-yard chip into the upper left corner.

Regular season MLS games ending in a tie will be decided by a shootout; however, spring training games will end at the completion of regulation time.

Tampa Bay star Carlos Valderrama made his MLS debut when he played the second half for Tampa Bay.
