The Rapids continue their revival by winning twice in California; the Metros and Revs share six goals; Hristo Stoitchkov leads D.C. past his first MLS team; and the Burn is scorched by Kansas City.
BEST GOAL: Of the half-dozen scored at Gillette Stadium in a 3-3 tie, the Revs' second featured a superb setup and finish by Joe-Max Moore.
He burst through midfield on the dribble, played a short ball to Taylor Twellman, looped in front of him to receive the return pass, veered right to touch the ball past Juan Forchetti, and then drilled a low shot past Tim Howard that banked in off the base of the goalpost.
LEFTY LASERS: Southpaw strikes of power and accuracy highlighted action from several games.
Igor Simutenkov belted a pair of beauties just three minutes apart, and Stephen Armstrong also blasted home from the edge of the box as the Wizards dismantled Dallas, 5-1.
Mark Chung's left-footed volley off a deep cross from Chris Carrieri clinched Colorado's 2-0 win over the Quakes.
WORST GOAL: New England surrendered a howler to help the Metros rally from a 3-0 deficit.
With the score 3-1, defender Douda Kante blundered the ball back to keeper Adin Brown, whose thunderous clearing kick smacked off Kante's face and rebounded back into the net. Mark it as one of the ugliest, and more painful, own goals in MLS history.
ASSIST MEN: Carrieri, who set school records for goals at North Carolina, is setting them up left and right. He assisted on all three goals in Colorado's wins in California.
John Spencer flicked Carrieri's short ball past defender Ricky Lewis and then drove a low shot into the net for a 1-0 win over Los Angeles at the Home Depot Center.
Spencer's winner was also the sixth consecutive game in which he had scored, one short of the league record, but the string was snapped in San Jose.
Carrieri, who was traded by San Jose midway through his rookie season in 2001, set up Colorado's goals against the Quakes with a clever diagonal ball to Ritchie Kotschau and that right-wing cross to Chung.
Stoitchov set up both United goals with classic lefty feeds to lead D.C.'s comeback 2-1 win in Chicago, and midfielder Mark Lisi had a pair of assists as the Metros rallied from three goals down.
BEST SAVE(S): Brown, whose positioning looked a bit suspect on John Wolyniec's goal that started the Metros' comeback, denied Wolyniec in overtime with bang-bang saves to preserve the tie.
He stopped Wolyniec from close range with his left foot, and when Wolyniec corralled the rebound to shoot again, Brown somehow got his left glove to a hard shot hit right along the ground.
STREAKS: The Quakes have been blanked three straight times at home. They played 0-0 ties against the Wizards and Fire prior to be being blanked by Colorado, 2-0.
The Rapids have won three straight for the first time since 1999.
New England ran its modest unbeaten streak to four games and Taylor Twellman scored for the third straight game.
The Metros have played four straight overtime games and are unbeaten in the last three.
