The Crew and Quakes win their second straight games; the Galaxy winds up on either end of 4-2 results; D.C. drops two in four days; and the Burn loses its third in a row.

BEST GOALS, PART I: During a rich week of scoring with 23 goals in six matches, there were several brilliant individual efforts as well as some sublime buildups.

Dwayne DeRosario clinched San Jose's 4-2 defeat of the Galaxy Saturday by spinning away from two defenders on the left side, veering into the box past another defender, regaining the rebound of his dribble off yet another opponent, and lashing a low shot between keeper Kevin Hartman and the near post.

Freddy Adu tallied the first of what will surely be many highlight goals by gliding down the right wing and zig-zagging laterally away from three defenders before driving a left-footed bullet high into the net in United's 4-2 loss to Los Angeles last Wednesday.

In the same game, Adu's teammate Ronald Cerritos chested down a pass, cut inside on the dribble, and fired a rising left-footed laser that nicked the inside of the post just under the bar.

Brian Mullan beat Hartman with a pulverizing 18-yard shot from the right side that whistled an inch inside the far post.

BEST GOALS, PART II: Alejandro Moreno took advantage of a rare start Wednesday by bagging a hat trick as the Galaxy routed D.C.; he scored his third by touching home a bending cross from Andreas Herzog with the outside of his right foot from just outside the goal area.

Brian Ching scored the second of his two goals in San Jose's win over the Galaxy by chesting home a left-wing cross from DeRosario, who'd been sprung down the left wing on a Richard Mulrooney long ball.

BEST ASSISTS: The Rapids extended their unbeaten home record to 16 games by beating D.C., 2-1. Zizi Roberts scored the first goal on a bike assist from Jean-Phillippe Peguero, who directed a deflected Mark Chung cross towards goal with an overhead kick for Roberts to put away.

Metros' midfielder Mark Lisi sent Cornell Glen through the Revs' defense for the equalizing goal in their 1-1 tie with a perfect through ball that split two defenders.

Herzog assisted on all three of Moreno's goals against D.C. and he scored vs. the Quakes with a right-footed bullet following sharp passes by Joseph Ngwenya and Chris Albright.

Eric Denton set up Michael Ritch for the clinching goal in the Crew's 3-1 win at Chicago by fighting through a pair of defenders to reach a long ball and laying it back for Ritch to slam into the net. Denton earned the Crew's first assist of the season.

DUAL DUTY: Several players, including DeRosario, Ngwenya, Moreno and Peguero, registered goals and assists in the same game.

As did Josh Wolff. He set up Kansas City's first goal in its 2-0 win against the Burn with a right-wing cross that Jack Jewsbury snuck past Philip Salyer to tuck into the net, and Wolff scored the second with a booming shot after a ball had bounced off defender Steve Jolley.

BIG SAVES: Rapids keeper Joe Cannon snuffed Adu on a breakaway in Colorado's defeat of United. Jonny Walker kicked away a low drive from Taylor Twellman to keep the Revs and Metros tied, 1-1. Crew keeper Jon Busch preserved his team's victory by denying Nate Jaqua and Dipsy Selolwane in the final 20 minutes.

TAP-INS: The Crew is unbeaten in its last four games and won in Chicago for the first time since September, 1999. … Ngwenya scored for the Galaxy against both D.C. and San Jose and both goals were headers …. Pat Noonan scored against the Metros for the eighth time. He has 12 goals in his MLS regular-season career. … Tony Meola increased his career record to 52 shutouts and Kansas City extended its home unbeaten mark to eight games.
