As expected, U.S. national team star Eric Wynalda has been allocated by MLS to the San Jose Clash.
Wynalda, who has spent the last four years in Germany with Saarbruecken and Bochum, became the all-time U.S. national team leading scorer with 22 goals when he scored a tournament-high four goals at the Gold Cup.
Wynalda, a product of San Diego State, had previously played for the APSL’s San Francisco Bay Blackhawks. He joins defenders John Doyle and Mike Emenalo on the Clash.
Also allocated Jan. 22 was former St. Louis University star Mark Santel. He’ll be reunited with coach David Dir at the Dallas Burn. Santel, a midfielder, played for Dir at the Colorado Foxes.
Santel is the second player to be allocated to the Burn after Mexican star Hugo Sanchez. Washington Rodriguez, the 1995 Uruguyan First Division Player of the Year, is also rumored to be headed to Dallas.
