D.C. United midfielder Ben Olsen is set to undergo additional minor surgery on his right ankle. Dr. Mark Myerson will perform the procedure Friday at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Md. The surgery is necessary as a result of tendonitis and will delay Olsen’s return to full training with United until the beginning of February. Olsen, the former University of Virginia star who has 19 U.S. caps, has had two procedures on the ankle since originally injuring it while on loan with English First Division club Nottingham Forest after the 2000 MLS season. “Ben is really working hard to be back in the lineup as quickly as possible,” said United assistant coach Curt Onalfo. “We are optimistic that this procedure will allow Ben full recovery and that he’ll resume full training with our club in February.” Olsen, who missed the entire 2001 season because of the injury, played 72 games for D.C. United from 1998 to 2000.
