USC, No. 1 in the Soccer America Women’s Top 25, fell to Portland, 1-0, on Monday when Canadian Olympian Sophie Schmidt scored on an golden goal in the 97th minute.
Schmidt scored when she tapped in a rebound of Charney Burk‘s shot off the inside of the right post. Burk’s shot followed a move by Elli Reed down the right side and cross in the middle.
