Santa Clara continues to lead defending national champion North Carolina 1-0 at halftime in their NCAA semifinal match in Greensboro, N.C. The Broncos have had the better of play in the first half, controlling much of the possession. In addition to Mandy Clemens’ 28th minute goal, Santa Clara also had a superb scoring chance in the final five minutes of the half, when Jacqui Little beat three Carolina players to a long clearance and had only the keeper to beat, but her low shot was saved by UNC’s Siri Mullinix. Carolina had several opportunities, the best of which occurred after a muffed clearance by Santa Clara, but Cindy Parlow’s poor first touch allowed Bronco keeper Crystal Gordon to make the save.
