Connecticut leads Notre Dame 1-0 at halftime of their NCAA semifinal in Greensboro, N.C. The Fighting Irish dominated the first half, as a large portion of the period was spent in Connecticut’s end of the field. The Irish hit the woodwork three times and had two shots cleared off the line by UConn defenders. In one sequence, a Notre Dame shot hit the right post, and the rebound shot bounced off the crossbar, setting up a third effort that went wide right. The Husky defense managed to hold out, and with three minutes remaining in the half, Jen Carlson sprung all-America Sara Whalen down the left flank. Whalen used her superb speed to outrun the Irish defense and then beat keeper LaKeysia Beene with a driven low shot to the near post.
