Sara Whalen scored in the 65th minute to give UConn a 2-0 lead over Notre Dame in their NCAA semifinal. The Huskies, playing with increasing confidence as the second half progressed, had previously had several dangerous counterattacking opportunities in which they utilized the tremendous speed of their frontrunners. In the 65th minute, Jennifer Tietjen made a superb pass from the UConn half to a streaking Whalen, who blew through a pair of Irish defenders, tapped the ball around LaKeysia Beene, and calmly slotted it into the open net.
