Connecticut has defeated Notre Dame 2-1 in their NCAA semifinal match in Greensboro, N.C. The Irish pressed hard for an equalizer, but the Husky defense completed a marvelous game by holding off the repeated attacks. Notre Dame came close with three minutes remaining, when UConn keeper Heather Stone made a fine play to snag a dangerous cross away from Jenny Streiffer, who would otherwise have had a clear shot at a header on goal.
