Jose Pekerman is to be the new coach of Argentina, replacing Marcelo Bielsa, who resigned on Tuesday. Pekerman, 55, was the architect of the successful Argentina national youth team program in the 1990s. He led Argentina to World Youth Championship titles in 1995, 1997 and 2001. Twice before, after the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, Pekerman had been offered the national team job but declined. Pekerman was offered the job this time after former Boca Juniors coach Carlos Bianchi turned down the job.
