Hours before the summer transfer deadline, Manchester United completed the acquisition of 18-year-old striker Wayne Rooney, signed to a six-year contract, from Everton. United will pay 20 million pounds ($36 million) for the England striker, with half due immediately and the other half to be paid by Aug. 1, 2005. There could be further contingent payments to Everton over the next five years up to a maximum of 7 million pounds ($12.6 million).
