Two young soccer stars, South African international Gift Leremi and Argentine goalie Gustavo Eberto, died on Monday.
Leremi, 22, was killed when he was flung from his car when it went off the road and overturned outside of Johannesburg.
He had just returned from Cameroon where he played for South African champion Mamelodi Sundowns, whom he joined in the offseason from Orlando Pirates.
Eberto, the starting goalkeeper on Argentina’s team that finished fourth at the 2003 U-20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, died after a 20-month battle with testicular cancer at the age of 24.
He debuted for Boca Juniors and later played for Second Division Talleres.
