Jermaine Pennant, who in 1999 became the youngest player ever fielded by Arsenal (16 years and 319 days) has been sentenced to three months in jail for drunk driving.

Pennant, who is on loan to Birmingham City, was arrested in January when police spotted him driving his Mercedes while dragging a lamp post.

He was almost two-and-a-half times over the legal alcohol limit. In February 2004 Pennant was banned from driving for 16 months after going down the wrong lane in London.

Arsenal had acquired Pennant, who has a history of disciplinary problems, from Notts County for a $3.1 million transfer fee in 1999.
