Alexander McLeod, 17, pleaded guilty in a Glasgow Sheriff Court to automobile theft and driving without a license. He was to be sentenced on March 8, but when McLeod's lawyer informed the court that McLeod had already paid for a trip to see Glasgow Rangers' Champions League game in Spain against Villarreal on March 8, Sheriff John Newall agreed to postpone the hearing.
A defense lawyer told The Herald, ''I haven't heard anything about the case but it does seem unusual to defer sentence for a football match. It's nice to see that the sheriff is a man of the people.''
