Ghana, Nigeria and Tunisia moved closer toward clinching Africa’s three berths in the 1996 Olympic men’s soccer tournament with wins March 3.

Ghana’s Meteors beat Cameroon 3-0 at home with three second-half goals. Almost all of Ghana’s team plays in Europe or the Middle East. Substitute Eben Hagan, who plays for Greek club Kalamata, led Ghana with two goals. Stephen Baidoo opened the scoring.

Nigeria beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in Harare. The Eaglets feature a host of European-based stars, including Nwankwo Kanu (Ajax), Jay Jay Okocha (Eintracht Frankfurt). Teslim Fatusi scored with seven minutes left to the disappointment of 40,000 Zimbabwean fans.

Tunisia, a late replacement for Togo (disqualified for using overage players), clobbered Guinea 5-2 in Tunis.
