Australia, to the surprise of none, on Saturday claimed the Oceania confederation's berth for this summer's Athens Olympics, routing host Fiji, 7-0, in the final game of the OFC qualifying tournament.

Lana Harch netted a hat trick and April Mann scored her third and fourth goals of the three-nation tournament as the Matildas romped to a 5-0 halftime lead.

Australia beat Papua New Guinea, 10-0, in its qualifying opener. New Zealand, the only true OFC challenger to the Aussies, pulled out of the qualifiers in order to begin preparations for the 2007 Women's World Cup.

Australia is the seventh nation to advance to the 10-team Olympic women's soccer field. Greece, as host, received an automatic berth, and World Cup champion Germany and runner-up Sweden qualified as Europe's top two finishers at last fall's Women's World Cup.

Brazil, South America's lone power, received its berth when CONMEBOL decided not to stage a qualifying tournament. The United States and Mexico claimed CONCACAF's berths with semifinal wins Wednesday at the region's qualifying tournament in Costa Rica.

Africa's qualifier will be determined in a two-match series between Nigeria and South Africa. The opener will be played March 12 in Pretoria with the second leg two weeks later in Nigeria.

Asia's qualifying tournament is slated for April 18-24 in Japan. The top two teams will advance.

The Olympic tournament will be played Aug. 11-26 in five Greek cities — Athens, Heraklio, Patra, Thessaloniki and Volos — with the title game scheduled for Athens.
