Mexico's under-23 national team, preparing for CONCACAF's Feb. 2-12 Olympic qualifying tournament, closed a two-match U.S. tour Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Swedish club Hammarby at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Stadium.
Morelia's Rafael Marquez, who scored the lone goal in last weekend's 1-0 victory over Honduras' U-23s in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., netted a pair, and Juan Carlos Cacho scored the 69th-minute winner before about 1,500 fans.
Monterrey's Luis Perez set up both Marquez goals and repeatedly tormented Hammarby with twisting runs to the Swedes' box.
Hammarby, which is spending its winter training camp at the Home Depot Center in nearby Carson, twice rallied from deficits in the first half on goals by Petter Andersson in the 27th minute and Mikael Andersson in the 39th.
Marquez scored a superb header in the seventh minute and a clinical finish from 16 yards in the 38th.
Mexico will meet Trinidad & Tobago (Feb. 2), Jamaica (Feb. 4) and Costa Rica (Feb. 6) in Group B play at the CONCACAF qualifiers in Guadalajara.
The United States faces matches against Panama (Feb. 3), Canada (Feb. 5) and Honduras (Feb. 7) in Group A. The winners of the Feb. 10 semifinals will advance to the Aug. 11-28 competition at the Athens Olympics.
Hammarby, runner-up in Sweden's Allsvenskan last season, is preparing for the April 6 league opener against Malmo, which finished third in 2003.
The Swedes will play Orange County Blue Star of the Premier Development League in a closed-door match next Saturday at the Home Depot Center.
