Christine Latham and Aysha Jamani scored early goals and Canada held off host Costa Rica, 2-1, Monday night in Heredia in the decisive match for Group A in CONCACAF's Olympic women's qualifying tournament.

Canada advances to meet Mexico in the semifinals Wednesday in San Jose. Costa Rica will face the United States, winner of Group B, in the second semifinal. The winners of Wednesday's matches will qualify for this summer's Athens Olympics and meet Friday in the championship game.

Latham, the WUSA Rookie of the Year last season, scored Canada's first goal for the third successive game, and Jamani, a high school junior from Calgary, netted her fifth goal of the tournament. She is tied with Mexico's Paty Perez in the battle for the Golden Boot.

Shirley Cruz halved Costa Rica's deficit with a 63rd-minute goal.

In Wednesday's first match at Eladio Rosabal Cordero Stadium, Panama beat Jamaica, 3-0, as Raiza Gutierrez scored twice.
