At age 26, standing tall at 6-foot-4 and with a wealth of international experience to his credit, from the youth level to the full national team, it’s no secret that U.S. international Oguchi Onyewu is currently a hot commodity overseas.

But after speculation that the Belgium-based defender would be shipped off to any number of countries (among them France and Spain), the latest report has him heading to Germany to play behind U.S. midfielder Michael Bradley at Borussia Moenchengladbach, but only if it can stay up in the Bundesliga, where they are mired in the relegation zone.

Onyewu is out of contract at the end of the 2008-09 season at top Belgian club Standard Liege, where he’s made a whopping 174 appearances, scored 13 goals, won a championship (2007-08), and has been named twice to the Belgian Best XI.
