Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk will announce details Tuesday of his plans to build a new soccer stadium as he officially launches his bid to bring a Major League Soccer team to the city.
A spokesperson declined to give details ahead of the scheduled press conference, except to say that Melnyk already has a location in mind for the new stadium. The former Biovail executive wants to bring a team to Ottawa in the 2011 season, when the league is expected to expand from 16 to 18 teams.
Other potential expansion cities include Atlanta, Las Vegas, Montreal, a second team in the New York area, Portland, St. Louis and Vancouver. Not to mention the rumored Barcelona sister-team in Miami.
