Lilly shines in 2-1 win

Despite dominating the match, the U.S. women needed an 83rd-minute goal from sweeper Carla Overbeck to defeat Denmark 2-1 in a friendly Feb. 10 in Orlando.

Denmark, which had four shots on goal to the United States’ 23, scored first after a defensive mixup led to Lisbet Kolding’s goal in the 38th minute.

In the 53rd minute, a yellow card to Denmark’s Rikke Holm and subsequent U.S. free kick near the top of the Danish box set up the tying goal. Mia Hamm’s shot was deflected to Kristine Lilly, who scored from 25 yards.

A U.S. corner kick led to Overbeck’s winner. Tisha Venturini headed the ball to Cindy Parlow, whose header found Lilly. Overbeck, all alone at the other post, took Lilly’s pass and tapped the ball in from six yards out.

Denmark, an Olympic qualifier, last played the U.S. at the World Championship in Sweden, where the Danes lost 2-0.
