It could be curtains for Michael Owen this season, Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder admitted for the first time. “I don’t know and I couldn’t say whether he’ll play again this season, we’ll just have to wait and see,” Roeder said on a radio show yesterday. Owen, a Newcastle player for about a year, started just ten games for the Magpies last season following a $32 million move from Real Madrid. The England striker needs to return to the U.S. this month to undergo a second operation on the knee ligaments that were damaged during the World Cup finals. “It goes without saying that Michael has an injury that’s going to take a fair bit of time to repair and get better,” Roeder said. ”If we put a date on it and I say we’ll have Michael Owen back by next March and next March comes round and he isn’t fit, it causes more problems than you would want.”
