Serie A club Parma will be sold in an auction later this month, the club’s interim owners said, citing several interested parties. “If we act quickly – and that will depend on the buyer – the sale could go through in time for the new owner to make moves in the January transfer window,” said Roberto Cappelli, the club’s managing director. Parma has been run by a group of temporary administrators since parent company Parmalat went bankrupt in December 2003, although financial troubles led to the club’s demise as a Serie A contender long before then. Former Real Madrid chairman Lorenzo Sanz nearly bought the club last year only for the deal to fall through in its late stages. Cappelli said Parma was determined to reach a deal this time, which will likely be for far less than the $34 million asked for previously. This season Parma finds itself firmly entrenched in Serie A’s relegation zone, in 19th place with 12 points from 18 matches.
