Penn, a team with no seniors, joined Portland as the first two qualifiers for the NCAA Division I Women’s Tournament when the Quakers clinched the Ivy League’s automatic berth on Sunday.
Penn (12-3-1 overall, 5-1-0 in the Ivy League) earned a share of the title Saturday with a 1-0 win over Princeton on freshman Kristin Kaiser‘s golden goal and booked its postseason ticket the next day when Brown fell to Yale, 3-1.
Both Princeton and Yale can still tie Penn for a share of the Ivy title, but Penn has won the tiebreaker — head-to-head — against both teams.
Penn previously won the Ivy title in 2001. It also went to the NCAA Tournament in 1999. The Quakers have lost in the first round both times.
