JosuT Vallejo Brawley, Calif. Will the USA friendly against Mexico on Oct. 25 count as one of the games Claudio Reyna and Bruce Arena have to miss because of their suspensions? Mike Woitalla: If such suspensions could be served during friendly games, a federation could quickly schedule some more to get players eligible for World Cup qualifying games. So, no, ReynaÆs two-game suspension and ArenaÆs three-game suspension (from the locker room and bench, in ArenaÆs case) donÆt apply to the Mexico game in Los Angeles Oct. 25. Both suspensions are specifically for World Cup qualifying games. Whether Arena uses Reyna against Mexico is another story. He may use the game to try out some new players. Plus, foreign-based players like Reyna (ScotlandÆs Glasgow Rangers) often times arenÆt called in for friendlies. As for these particular FIFA suspensions, both came out of the July 23 game in Costa Rica. Reyna got two games and a $3,000 fine for ômisbehavior towards the refereeö after the game. Arena got three games and a $5,000 fine for ôinsulting the refereeö after the game. (IÆm quoting the FIFA statement from its Sept. 11 Disciplinary Committee decision.)
