John Wynn Gladwyne, Pa. I told my son that a player can get a card if he or she fouls his or her own teammate. Am I right? Mike Woitalla: You are correct. If for some reason a player fouls a teammate, the rules would allow the referee to show a yellow card for “unsporting behavior.” If a player’s act can be considered “violent conduct,” that player should see red, according to the rules. I have in fact been witness to the red-carding of a player who decided to punch a teammate whose criticism he would no longer tolerate. To my team’s delight, we played a man-up from for the rest of the game.
