Aminah San Luis Obispo, Calif. My children’s coach wants us all to learn about soccer history. Our question is: Who was the oldest player to play in a World Cup match? Mike Woitalla: Roger Milla of Cameroon not only became the oldest player to play in a World Cup match, he is also the oldest to score a World Cup goal. Milla was 42 when at the 1994 World Cup he scored Cameroon’s only goal in a 6-1 loss to Russia. Four years earlier, when Cameroon surprised the world with a quarterfinal appearance, Milla scored four goals. Now here’s some info for extra credit: The oldest player to win a World Cup was Dino Zoff, who at 40 was Italy’s goalkeeper during its 1982 victory.
