Officials at Robertson Stadium, home of the Houston Dynamo, have banned “indefinitely” a fan who aimed a racist slur at D.C. United goalkeeper Louis Crayton after the United’s 0-0 tie in Texas Sunday.
“I am saying hi to the fans,” Crayton told Steven Goff, “and he walked up to me and told me, ‘Hey, you’re a monkey, go back to the jungle.’ I told him, ‘Hey, you can’t say that to me. I am not a monkey, I am a human being like you.’ I jumped over to ask him why he insulted me, and he kept going.”
Robertson Stadium officials escorted the fan out and barred him indefinitely. Crayton, who had put on an MVP performance to get United a point, said it was the first time he’d heard any such comment since coming in August from Switzerland to play in Major League Soccer.
United’s seemingly endless run of bad luck continued when they had Bryan Namoff sent off following a fairly innocuous aerial foul against Brad Davis. Namoff took a yellow for the foul, and was then dismissed after having been yellow-carded in the first half for timewasting by referee Baldomero Toledo.. “It was completely an accidental knock,” said Namoff, who will miss Thursday’s game at home to New England. “Not allowing a 50-50 challenge at that point in the game in a 0-0 tie just shows the complete error. I really don’t understand why the referees need to try to dictate the games when they are so close.” United is two points off a playoff spot with two games remaining.
