… April Fools!

The web was littered with April Fool's stories on Sunday. One concerned Barcelona, which has struggled this season after winning La Liga and the UEFA Champions League in 2006, and the future of its Dutch coach, Frank Rijkaard.

The web site goal.comreported Sunday that Barca would replace Rijkaard with Bruce Arena next season, and Arena would bring U.S. star Landon Donovan with him to Barcelona. To pay for Donovan's transfer, goal, com reported that Barca would follow through with a deal with AC Milan to sell Ronaldinho in return for $300 million and long-time Milan star Paolo Maldini.

According to the report, Barcelona agreed to pay Donovan 10 million euros ($13.3 million) per season — plus all outstanding requests on his wedding registry — to get him to move to Spain from the Galaxy.
