Jose Antonio Reyes talked openly with Reuters of his desire to move to Real Madrid before Arsenal plays its third round Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday. If Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger chooses to play Reyes in the series with Zagreb, he would be unable to compete in the Champions League with Real Madrid, a situation he said he would rather avoid. “The manager (Arsene Wenger) hasn’t said anything to me and I don’t know if I am going to play or not. I hope I don’t or that everything will be resolved before then,” Reyes told Spanish paper La Marca on Friday. Nine-times European Champions Real Madrid said they are only interested in signing players who would be available for all competitions. The Madrid club has maintained an open interest in Reyes since the player signed for Arsenal for $37.5 million in January 2004. Real’s sports director Pedrag Mijatovic confirmed the club’s interest, but added that he is not a priority for them. Reyes, who never really adapted to English soccer, is desperate to sign for the Madrid club. Echoing Ruud van Nistelrooy, he said, “I miss Spain and I have a unique opportunity to return with what Real are offering. Everyone has to understand I can’t let this chance slip away. Real Madrid is unique.”
