Two-time FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldinho has been the franchise player at Barcelona for four years now, but thanks to the emergence of young Leo Messi, the Brazilian’s undisputed standing has lost its air of infallibility. In fact, it’s no secret that Barcelona has looked better so far this season without Ronaldinho, who’s been sidelined for the last three games with a mysterious calf injury.
The criticism, of course, has again sparked rumors that Ronny wants to go elsewhere. Milan, where Brazilian teammates Kaka and Ronaldo also play, is always a possibility, but the Telegraph reveals that Ronaldinho’s brother and agent, Roberto de Assis, has also had talks with Chelsea over a possible move to Stamford Bridge. On Monday, the Barcelona star did his duty saying, “I want to stay with Barcelona — that is my wish, that is the wish of Ronaldinho. I am content because my life is centered on my work and I will give my answers on the field. It is there where I will respond.” Yet last week, his brother refused to rule out a move elsewhere. It will be interesting to see how much he plays against Stuttgart in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Chelsea could certainly use the creative spark. Since the departure of Manager Jose Mourinho, the Blues have lost to Manchester United, 2-0, and tied Fulham 0-0. A 4-0 Carling Cup win for the team’s second stringers will be discounted, placing greater pressure on Wednesday night’s Champions League match against Valencia.
