Real Madrid confirmed Tuesday that Ronaldo, like David Beckham, is surplus to requirements and will be allowed to leave the club as early as this month. Unlike Beckham, Ronaldo has another year left on his contract, so any move will require a transfer fee. Despite whisperings in the press of his possible unveiling with the New York Red Bulls later this month, Football Italia says the Brazilian’s preferred destination is AC Milan, which is still badly in need of another striker. Spanish newspaper AS claims that Ronaldo’s agent traveled to Milan earlier this week, where his mission was to finalize a move to the San Siro before the end of the month. However, Milan VP Adriano Galliani recently stated that the club was not interested in signing a striker during the January transfer window, but the Football Italia report claims Milan is willing to pay $4 million to sign the striker on loan immediately, with an option to buy out the remainder of his contract at the end of the season. “Under certain conditions, we could sign Ronaldo,” Galliani told Italian radio. “However, I want to clarify that there are no negotiations underway with Real Madrid. If the Spanish club were to offer him at certain conditions, then negotiations could start.” In addition to Milan and the New York Red Bulls, Ronaldo has been linked with moves to Flamengo in Brazil and Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.
