The L.A. Galaxy’s recently trade-available striker Carlos Ruiz may not be leaving the club after all, despite recent speculation. “Our intention is to keep Carlos,” said the team’s Director of Soccer Paul Bravo Tuesday when asked about the status of trade talks after Ruiz came on as a late substitute for the team against Chivas USA last week.
“He did okay against Chivas when he came on,” Bravo added. “He nearly scored, and the next day he played 90 minutes in a reserve match. He scored two goals, had two assists, and we ended up winning, 5-3. To be honest, you might see him start alongside Edson [Buddle] this weekend.”
But hold on, L.A. fans, don’t rush out and buy that ‘El Pescadito’ replica shirt just yet. A deal is still not out of the question. “We would consider moving Carlos at this point,” said Bravo, contradicting what you just read two paragraphs ago. “We would like to add a central midfielder, somebody who can do the work both going forward in support and defensively.” But “Ruud [Gullit] knows he’s going to score goals eventually. If we move him, we run the risk of him blowing up, and that’s always in the back of our mind.”
