There’s less than a month left in the summer transfer period and the fates of Ashley Cole, Cristiano Ronaldo, Hernan Crespo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic still hang in the balance. As we head into the weekend, rumor has it that Valencia is ready to offer Manchester United $20 million plus Argentine World Cup defender Roberto Ayala for the Cristiano Ronaldo. Meanwhile, Chelsea-like Inter Milan continues to be linked with every major striker on the planet, including Ibrahimovic, David Trezeguet, Luca Toni, and now, Stamford Bridge misfit and former player Hernan Crespo. Following a training ground bust-up with Robinho, Thomas Gravesen looks to be on his way out of Real Madrid. Michael Owen, of all people, is said to be trying to lure Gravesen to Newcastle, but interest has also come from Bolton, Manchester City and Galatasaray. William Gallas is now suddenly a transfer target following his dissent at Chelsea; Arsenal might be more willing to let go of Ashley Cole if Gallas were thrown in the deal somehow. And finally, West Ham has stated its intention to land a season long-loan deal for Chelsea winger Shaun Wright Phillips. But then again, so has everyone else; it would be a shame to see the talented right midfielder rot on the bench again all season.
