U.S. national team coach Steve Sampson is in satisfactory condition after undergoing and emergency appendectomy early this morning.

Sampson had complained of stomach pains Tuesday afternoon, checked into the hospital that evening, and underwent surgery at approximately 2:00 a.m.

The U.S. coach had planned to leave Thursday to watch the American U-20 team at the CONCACAF qualifying tournament in Monterrey, Mexico, but he will remain in the Westlake Village (Calif.) Medical Center through Friday to recuperate. He hopes to reschedule the trip to see the final- round games April 23 and 25.
