Scotland finished another disappointing qualifying campaign with a 1-0 loss to the Netherlands at Hampden Park. The loss put Scotland in third place in Group Nine and out of contention for a place at South Africa 2010.

The Scottish FA’s president, George Peat, will meet next week with Scottish manager George Burley to decide the Burley’s future with the team. Burley, who has been Scotland’s manager for 18 months, stated his desire to remain in the job. Burley replaced Alex McLeish in January 2008. His tenure has been marred by disappointing results and incidents, namely the infamous “Boozegate” affair, which ended the international careers of Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor after the two players made lude gestures from the sidelines of a game while serving suspensions for drinking.

Scotland has not qualified for the World Cup since 1998.
