Losses by West Coast College powers Portland and Santa Clara, the Nos. 2 and 3 teams in Soccer America's College Women's Preseason Top 25, led to a revamping of the rankings after the first weekend of the season, with Stanford vaulting into the Top 5 and four schools — including Utah — jumping into the Top 25.

The No. 2 Pilots, playing without All-American striker Christine Sinclair, dropped games at BYU and Utah and fell to 13th in the SA 25. The third-ranked Broncos, missing three key players, were dominated by Stanford and fell to No. 10.

The Cardinal, ranked seventh in the Preseason Top 25, moved up the No. 3 following its impressive 3-0 victory at Santa Clara's Buck Shaw Stadium.

North Carolina retains the No. 1 spot despite having to rally to tie Nebraska in its opener on Friday. The Tar Heels, missing four players, bounced back with a 2-0 win over USC. Nebraska, which beat Wisconsin, 1-0, on Sunday, moved from No. 11 to No. 9.

Michigan, Utah and BYU moved into the Top 25 with impressive weeks. The Wolverines topped Florida, 2-0, and BYU, 2-1, and are ranked 19th. Utah, which beat Portland in Coach Rich Manning's debut, is in the 23rd spot, and BYU is No. 24. Boston College, which shut out Massachusetts and Holy Cross, is ranked 25th.

Dropping out of the Top 25 are West Virginia (17th), St. Mary's (18th), Florida (23rd) and Rutgers (24th). West Virginia dropped its opener at Auburn, St. Mary's lost its opener to Purdue at California's tournament, Florida was beaten by Michigan and BYU, and Rutgers was held to a scoreless draw by James Madison in its Wanchovia Challenge opener in Richmond, Va.
