WHAT IS SOCCER AMERICA?
Founded in 1971, Soccer America is America’s No. 1 source for soccer news, entertainment and expertise. Soccer America’s chief products include Soccer America, the national weekly magazine, The SNICKERS®/Soccer America Yellow Pages™; Soccer America Online and Soccer America FanZone, the interactive fan festival held in conjunction with the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer Championship.
WHAT IS THE SILVER XI?
In celebration of its 25th Anniversary, Soccer America is asking soccer fans across the nation to name the 11 players and one coach who’ve had the most positive impact on American soccer in the last 25 years.
CRITERIA?
Simple. Players must have been eligible to play on a U.S. national team or have played pro soccer in the U.S. between 1971 and the present.
ARE WOMEN AND FOREIGN PLAYERS ELIGIBLE?
Yes. For example, we think Pele and Michelle Akers have a good case for being in the Silver XI, but we’re leaving that decision (and debate) up to the experts — America’s soccer fans.
SO ANYONE CAN VOTE?
Yes. All completed Soccer America Silver XI ballots will be accepted in the voting.
HOW DO I GET A BALLOT?
Look for Soccer America Silver XI ballots in the Fall edition of the USYSA Network, the Soccer America College Preview (Sept. 2 issue), the SNICKERS®/Soccer America Yellow Pages™, TSI’s September catalogue, and at the ’96 USISL Championship in Richmond, Va. Or you can copy a ballot from a friend. You can also vote through Soccer America Online at https://www.socceramerica.com/.
WHEN DOES ALL THIS HAPPEN?
The deadline for submitting ballots is Oct. 31, 1996. The Silver XI team will be announced at Soccer America FanZone in Richmond, Va., Dec. 14, 1996, and in the Dec. 30 issue of Soccer America magazine.
