Sophomore midfielder Michelle Makasini, who scored three goals to lead the LSU to a 3-0 victory over No. 7 Tennessee on Friday night and a 1-1 draw with No. 18 Georgia on Sunday afternoon, is the Soccer America Women’s Player of the Week for games played Oct. 1-7.

MAKASINI PROFILE

Makasini scored the first of her two goals against Tennessee in the 21st minute on a free kick from 30 yards out to the delight of a record crowd of 2,402 fans at the LSU Soccer Complex.

The Euless, Texas, native showed her class from long range as she put the game out of reach in the 82nd minute with a 30-yard blast over the head of Tennessee goalkeeper Jaimel Johnson, who had come off her line.

Against Georgia, Makasini buried the equalizer for LSU less than four minutes after the Bulldogs had taken the lead.

Makasini, daughter of a former Tongan rugby pro, is now the Tigers’ second-leading scorer with seven goals and 16 points.
