Impressive victories sparked Notre Dame, Clemson, Florida and Connecticut to make the biggest jumps in this week’s Soccer America college women’s Top 20. The Fighting Irish leapt from ninth to sixth after overcoming Nebraska and West Virginia; Clemson moved up from 12th to ninth with a 4-0 romp over Virginia; Florida jumped from 15th to 11th after shutouts over Florida State and South Carolina; and UConn hammered Miami to move from 16th to 13th. Nebraska fell from fourth to seventh after the 1-0 loss at Notre Dame, and Texas A&M (seventh to 10th after 2-2 tie at Colorado), Penn State (10th to 12th after 1-1 tie vs. Purdue), Florida State (13th to 14th), Virginia (11th to 15th), Washington (14th to 16th after 1-0 loss to visiting Portland) and Tennessee (19th to 20th after 5-2 loss to North Carolina) took small tumbles. William & Mary, 20th last week, fell out of the rankings after shutout losses at Virginia Tech and at home to UCLA. The Tribe has been shut out in three successive matches. New to the Top 20 is Brigham Young, which shut out Weber State, Arizona and Boston University last week after tying Washington and playing Portland tough the previous weekend.
