While preparing to take a penalty for Lazio against Sampdoria, Simone Inzaghi had the ball wrestled out of his hands by Paolo Di Canio, who then shoved Inzaghi away and buried the shot that gave Lazio a 1-0 win. Inzaghi did not join the celebrations, but instead argued with Di Canio on the way back to the center circle until teammates separated the two.
DiCanio was making the first appearance of his second stint with Lazio, which he left in 1990 before playing for three other Italian teams and nearly a decade in Britain, where he once received a 11-game ban for pushing a referee.
Di Canio said after the game, ''I've always taken penalties. But, I want to say that he will take the next one.''
