Standard Liege has rejected Fulham’s initial offer of $1.8 million for U.S. international defender Oguchi Onyewu. “Fulham offered £1M for him, but that is much less than Standard values him at,” came the statement from Standard’s Web site. “If [Fulham] want him bad enough, they are going to have to up the bid.” It’s uncertain by just how much, but according to Yanks Abroad, the two sides are far from reaching a deal. One unnamed source said Onyewu had gone to London to meet with Fulham representatives-coinciding with the Associated Press report-though the sides were unable to come to any agreement. Following the meeting in London, Onyewu was seen boarding an Alitalia jet to Milan, where he said: “I am neither confirming or denying anything.” After the Milan trip, Onyewu says he’ll return to Standard’s camp in Portugal where the team will train ahead of a friendly against German club Wolfsburg Jan 8.
