The Los Angeles Galaxy won its second straight game on penalties to reach the final of the TFC Champions Cup Sunday against Olimpia of Honduras and clinch a berth in this summer’s Club World Championship. Kevin Hartman made the decisive stop, blocking Ben Olsen’s penalty kick to give Los Angeles a 4-2 win over MLS rival D.C. United on penalty kicks after the game ended 1-1. Both goals during regulation came on penalties: Greg Vanney for the Galaxy in the first half; Marco Etcheverry for D.C. shortly after halftime. The Galaxy makes its second appearance in the CONCACAF club championship. It fell in the 1997 final. The victory was revenge for two losses to D.C. in MLS Cup finals, in 1996 and 1999. In the first semifinal match, Olimpia of Honduras buried Pachuca, 4-0, scoring its second straight stunning win over a Mexican team. Honduran internationals Alex Pineda and Christian Santamaria tore the Pachuca defense to shreds, and Brazilian Denilson Costa had a hat trick in the easy win.
