After being sidelined for seven games with a knee injury, it took barely 14 minutes for New England Revolution striker Taylor Twellman to score his first goal of the MLS season. But then, four minutes later, he got injured again, his ankle this time. Revs coach Steve Nicol was prepared to have Twellman replaced before the veteran striker returned (after two minutes of recovery time) and finished the game.

Even so, Twellman now looks a serious doubt for Saturday’s game against San Jose at Gillette Stadium. In fact, if his post-match comments are anything to go by, Twellman could be out for another long stretch; the player says the pain is worse this time than when he broke his foot scoring a goal in Dallas five years ago. Meanwhile, there has been no official word from the Revs about how long he will be out.

Another long-term injury to Twellman would obviously be a huge blow to the Revs, which have been inconsistent this season — especially at home. As center midfielder Jeff Larentowicz says, “We have to figure out a way to win at home. We seem to concentrate more on the road.”
