Real Salt Lake playmaker Javier Morales has done everything for his team this year, writes Michael Lewis: “Spearheaded the attack. Led the team in assists. Set up some of the biggest goals in franchise history.” On Saturday at Chivas USA it was logical that he would deliver the goal that sealed the team’s berth in the Western Conference playoff final.

“Unbelievable,” RSL midfielder Kyle Beckerman said of the intense, see-saw match. “It was a team effort. I’m just proud of everybody. It was really an awesome effort, and I think we deserved it. We fought and it was a little nasty — some of the things on the field — but we didn’t sweat it. We just kept going at it and we showed we’re a class team.”

His teammate Yura Movsisyan said the victory was a result of the team’s will. “We wanted to play,” he said. “We wanted to play our game… and we wanted to match their intensity.”
